Did you know that Dave is an author? He has written a 3 book fantasy series called “The Demon Curse” which discovers the fantastical demon society and how they interact with the human world. How do new demons get introduced into their world, I hear you ask. Find out in this installment.

Dave may or may not know that I am posting a portion of the book per week. I post an installment once a week (until I get caught) so without further ado, I give you the ninth installment of The Demon Curse Series Book #1 entitled “Son of Ruin” written by David E. Hiatt.

Chapter 2 The Strange Boy Installment 9

Now, checking the time on the clock on his dresser, Jonathan picked up the sad little present and returned to the kitchen. He sat on the stool with it in his hands, waiting for the doorbell to ring.

Chapter 3 Establishing Order Installment 9 Continued

Succubus stood in the large cauldron, his hands on the sides with the hot blood and churning around him. He looked at the thousands of faces leering at him.

He saw thick, leathery, red skin with goat-like legs and cloven feet, large heads had horns coming from the forehead or the side, sometimes in a curl, sometimes jutting out and up like handlebars on a motorcycle.

A demon’s thick skin renders him impervious to fire and almost any injury. Their clothing is usually rough and crude consisting of a tunic made of a square piece of cloth fastened at the shoulders, breeches, and a cloak. All made from stringy, dried-out roots found growing in deep, dark caves called the Pits. The roots were pounded into fibers that were woven into this rough cloth, very much like burlap with a similar color.

The more powerful demons, however, were attired in a finer, silkier fabric made from the webs of small, creeping things that lived down in the murky, moist places, carefully woven by weaker demons forced into never ending labors.

The air was thick, and the noise around Succubus was deafening. He gazed around at the distant rocks glowing from smoldering fires.

His mind was a blank slate. He felt there had been more to his existence, but all he could remember was being very comfortable, surrounded by a fuzzy warmth. Then he was forced forward into the boiling hot blood where he now stood. It was somewhat painful but did not burn him.

The demon world is a place of rocks and caverns inside what is essentially a giant cave in the middle of a small, dense, stone planet called Carcerem on the edge of the universe.

Succubus looked up and all he could see was blackness that was the smooth, black rock enclosing the space. The
weight of the miles of stone pressed down upon all who lived there. Succubus had entered a place that was less world and more prison.

There you have it. The ninth piece of the book. Let me know if you enjoyed this, want more, or anything else I can do to make it easier to read.
