Chapter 3 Establishing Order Installment 14

The old demon seemed pleased by Succubus’ patience.

When Succubus did move forward and grabbed a root to gnaw on, Ansu stepped close and said, “Those things are bitter raw.”

It was surprising to hear the old demon speak, as Bune said nothing when he brought food. He walked in, dumped the bag and left, barely acknowledging the yearlings. Succubus looked up at the amiable demon and then at his root.

“Needs fire,” said Ansu, knowingly.

Succubus glanced around the cavern where the one torch sputtered near the entrance. Glancing at the old demon, he walked over and reaching as high as he could, placed the end of the root in the flame.

Ansu nodded approvingly.

Before long the end of the root began to sizzle, and juice slid down hot on his hand. Removing it from the flame, Succubus took a tentative bite. The result was much better. The bitterness was tempered by the cooked pulp and the juice was quite good.

He scarfed down the rest of the tuber while Anus looked pleased.

Ansu left and Succubus went to get more roots as he was hungrier now that he knew the secret.

However, the next time Bune brought the roots, and when Succubus walked over to roast it on the fire, the scruffy demon became angry and cuffed him hard on the side of the head.

Succubus was thrown to the side and smacked his shoulder hard on the rock.

Without a word, Bune removed the torch from the wall, leaving the cavern dimly lit by the red light of the entrance.

The next day, the torch was replaced out of arms reach.

There you have it. The Fourteenth piece of the book. Let me know if you enjoyed this, want more, or anything else I can do to make it easier to read.
