Chapter 4 Caves of Learning Installment 21

As he looked at his new students, he was filled with disgust. He recognized the larger yearling, the one named Succubus who had stood in the cauldron, unafraid. He remembered the whispers of the demons about the prophecy. Borgin felt a certain hate for this one.

Bune bowed his head to the young instructor, then shuffled out of the classroom.

“Find a place to sit,” said Borgin.

Whose in Charge?

As was the case in the cavern with the beds, the other demons waited for Succubus to choose first. Watching, Borgin became immediately enraged.

“Did I not say sit?” and raising his hand, he slammed a force of air into Succubus’ chest who then stumbled backward, tripping over the rock bench, and coming down hard on the floor behind. The other demons quickly sat in the closest place they could find.

Rubbing his elbow where he had smacked it on the floor, Succubus scooted forward and sat on the bench, looking at Borgin defiantly.

Borgin walked towards him, bent down and spoke softly. “You think you are the prophesied one, Bloodsmack?” He glared at him until Succubus lowered his gaze.

“I think you are a big, deformed mistake.” said Borgin raising his hand.

Into Succubus’ mind was cast a picture of himself, dressed in the dusty rags of Bune, shuffling along, carrying an arm full of roots.

Borgin stood dismissively and returned to the front of the room.

“In this class, I am your instructor. You look to me in all things. The slightest mistake will result in severe punishment. I am your god.” He stood with his hands slightly raised. Succubus could feel power radiating from him.

Each student bowed their head in turn and said, “I will it.”

Succubus was the last.
