Off to Underworld School

In the underworld when the young demons go to school they do not take a bus, nor do they have parents waving goodbye to them from the steps of the cave entry. Learn about the big trek to school in this latest installment of Dave's book "Son of Ruin". He has written a 3 book fantasy series called “The Demon Curse” that discusses life in the underworld including formal education.

Chapter 4 Caves of Learning Installment 18

The following week, Bune arrived as usual, but this time he stood before them, his old body bent with age. “It is time for you to enter the Caves of Learning” he said, looking at them from under his heavy brow. “You will be given a place to live, and you have been assigned a teacher named Borgin. In his classroom you will learn the demon arts.”

Succubus stood. He was curious but intimidated by the unknown. He looked around the cavern that had been his home for the last year. It was comfortable and he didn’t want to leave his roasting spot.

I suppose it will be better than staring at Ghamegis' giant nose every morning, he thought, trying to make himself feel better. Besides, it didn’t look as if Bune would listen to his protest. Maybe he could sneak back to this cavern if he didn’t like the school.

Bune led the yearlings out of their first dwelling and on to the plain where the Summoning had taken place. As they crossed this large area, Succubus remembered the horde of demons that had filled the space. They moved across it to the far side and soon he and the others looked down on a slope with a road that wound through rocks and boulders.

Following Bune, they began to descend.

Though Succubus didn’t know any different, there are only males in the demon world. But even this is misleading, as they do not have passions and drives normally associated with the male gender. They do have passion, but it is solely for power and control.

In the world of demons, as Succubus was discovering, there are only two things to understand, who has the power and how to gain more power. Demons are single-minded in these two pursuits.

After a long, but uneventful trip down the sloping descent, Succubus saw a large, rounded bluff in the distance, with a path rising to an opening halfway up.

As if he was talking to himself, Bune said, “Behold the Caves of Learning.”
