“Who is the Strange Boy?” Utah Finds Out in Latest Installment
Did you know that Dave has written a 3 book fantasy series? It's called “The Demon Curse” and it features demons and how they interact with the human world. One demon stumbles across a family including a strange boy. Could this boy be the connection to the demon world?
Now, Dave may or may not know that I am posting a portion of the book per week, like the installments that writers used to do in a newspaper. I post an installment once a week (until I get caught) so without further introduction I give you the fourth installment of The Demon Curse Series Book #1 entitled “Son of Ruin” written by David E. Hiatt.
Chapter 2 The Strange Boy Installment 4
Jonathan was wiry, slightly tall for his age, with pleasant enough features. His otherwise unremarkable face was strained with anxiety. Blue eyes were shaded by a furrowed brow. His brown hair was haphazardly combed.
Sixteen years old, Jonathan sat at the counter in the kitchen staring at his hands. He was anticipating a social event taking place later that day, and he felt sick to his stomach. He could hear his mother watching TV in the bedroom, and his father doing some work on the computer in his office.
His parents were from an ancient religious background but were not in any way religious themselves. They spent a lot of time working to provide a beautiful home and grounds. They maintained their lifestyle on a hill in a gated community, while at the same time expounding to their friends the virtues of a simple life.
His father walked into the kitchen. Jonathan jumped, startled by his appearance and a feeling of inadequacy overcame him. Irritation crossed his father’s face as he turned and opened the fridge for a drink. Walking out of the kitchen, his dad glanced out the window to the backyard and noticed a tablecloth with party plates on the patio table. “Is there something going on today?” he asked.
In a hesitant voice, Jonathan answered, “It's Solomon’s birthday party.”
His father looked at him blankly. Jonathan’s father had a handsome face with a square jaw. He carried himself in a way that said he was headed somewhere important. He had a full head of thick hair cut short and meticulously combed in a part. It was prematurely white and stood in contrast to his suntanned skin and bright blue eyes. Right now, those eyes held a far-off look.
At last, he seemed to grasp a distant memory. “Oh, that’s right.”
Jonathan’s father forgot most of what was happening around the home. He was intelligent and good with people, a successful financial consultant with a broad clientele, who kept a close watch on what he did with their money. He lived his life in market futures, reading the trades and latest news, keeping an eye on world events and anything that could influence stocks and bonds. He subscribed to several different financial sites, perusing the internet at the same time keeping up on any financial updates on the news channels. He was dialed in and did an excellent job protecting and growing the resources of those who had entrusted him with their money. In doing so, he also made a healthy profit for himself.

“Where is your mother?” his father asked.
Jonathan sat looking at his hands and didn’t answer.
