Chapter 3 Establishing Order Installment 15
It took Succubus some exploring of the back caverns to find a place where fire trickled through a crack in the stone floor. He left a root lying there for a few minutes until it began to sizzle and pop. He kept his roasting secret to himself, not wanting to get smacked again.
He and the other yearlings grew stronger and became more confident in their surroundings. As they did, they were able to explore more of the meandering crevices in the back of the cavern. They also began to interact with each other, building possible allies and considering potential threats.
For his part, Succubus stayed distant, watching and listening. One day after having brought roots for the young demons to eat, Bune left them again on their own.
Succubus had returned from his secret roasting spot and sat finishing off a root and sipping the hot brackish water found in the cave. He looked across the cavern and noticed one of the yearlings, a demon named Ghamegis, watching him.
He was taller, with a hooked nose and arms that hung wide from his slender body. He was combative and loud.
Ghamegis sat near Ipses, a shorter, compact demon with a flat forehead and small eyes, set close together under his heavy brow. He didn’t say much, but was strong and muscular with a thick, short neck and broad shoulders.
These two had recognized that they had more ability than the rest and had formed an unspoken partnership. They muttered to each other as they looked across the cave.
Succubus watched them with a half-smile on his face. They seemed to come to the decision that it was time to approach the large demon who kept to himself.
When Ghamegis walked toward him, Succubus stood and leaned casually against the cave wall. The lanky demon had a long loping gait and he approached with confidence.
“You better be careful who you stare at Bloodsmack.” he said, planning to gauge Succubus’ reaction.
Succubus, with surprising speed, sprang from the wall and caught Ghamegis by his long neck, while at the same time twisting around and using his momentum to slam the hook-nosed demon into the rock he had been leaning against. Ghamegis’ eyes registered shock and pain.

“You’re right about that.” said Succubus smiling inches from his face. “There really isn’t much here to stare at, beaky.”
Succubus had already learned the lesson all demons eventually discover that you can intimidate others, but to truly rule over them, you must bend their will to yours.
“I am your leader, nosey.”
With Succubus’ hand around his neck and his head registering pain, Ghamegis’ eyes darted back and forth searching for an ally.
Tightening his grip and pushing the long demon’s head into the wall, Succubus said again, “I am your leader.”
His lips clenched in pain, Ghamegis answered, “Yes.”
"You will do what I say.” Succubus stared into the demon’s watering, yellow eyes.
This time Ghamegis bowed his head. “I will it.”
Without being instructed, he had spoken the words the demon hierarchy was built on. It seemed to come to Ghamegis instinctively.
“I will it.” chimed in Ipses who was quick to note the change in power.
There you have it. The fifteenth piece of the book. Let me know if you enjoyed this, want more, or anything else I can do to make it easier to read.
