What The? The Meltdown Serves Gooey Sandwiches in St. George From…the Denny’s Kitchen
If you search “food near me” in St. George, you may see a restaurant named The Meltdown pop up offering some tasty looking melted sandwiches. This also might show up on delivery food apps. If you try to pick up your food, you’ll find yourself at Denny’s.
Ghost Kitchen is a Trend That Has Been Around Awhile
TGI Fridays has Conviction Chicken and IHOP offers Thrilled Cheese, and there are many more. These are ghost kitchens that offer food for delivery under a different name. Denny’s version is The Meltdown.
These catchy names can appeal to someone using a delivery app. In a story from CBS News the reporter had ordered food from The Meltdown several times before he realized it was Denny’s.
Ghost Kitchens are Controversial
Is it a smart idea or deceptive? It depends on how you feel about it. If the food is good does it matter what the name is? Is anyone harmed by getting a melt from Denny’s that has a different name on the delivery receipt?
You’ll have to decide for yourself. Looking at the reviews in St. George for The Meltdown there were several people who were unhappy. Adam Winterton sums up what many felt:
Seems like this listing is purely a delivery arm for Denny's Melted sandwiches and not a standalone place. This caused a lot of confusion and ultimately lost them the business for the evening.
It seems like they could be a little more straight forward by listing it as a subsidiary of the more well known chain. They could at least let people know it is a ghost kitchen when they order.

It really doesn't upset me that much as a consumer. I can figure out where my food is coming from. I feel for the staff at Denny’s and other places with ghost kitchens. They are the ones stuck explaining it to unhappy customers.
