Chapter 5 Solomon Installment 26
As time went on, Jonathan and Solomon’s parents moved on from the "children" part of their lives. They gave up on the idea of having offspring that would go on to do great things and carry on the family name. This worked well until at six years old, it was time for Jonathan to go to school. It was a big day. His parents had felt pre-school would be too much for him, so it was the first time he would be going to a classroom by himself. The nanny woke him up early and put out new clothes for him to wear. Solomon was still asleep, and Jonathan began to feel the anxiety and stress that had once consumed him rise again inside. As he sat at the table looking at his breakfast with fresh squeezed orange juice, he wanted to throw up and tears welled up in his eyes.
Everyone Goes to School
His mother told him, “Everyone attends school Jonathan and there is really nothing to worry about.” She privately wondered if she should have taken more time this morning to talk to his principal about available classes for “special children.” She eyed her son warily as he began to shake silently in his chair at the table.
Then a small shuffle of feet came into the dining room. Solomon, with sleep in his eyes, walked over and sensing the tenseness in the room and the emotional knot his brother was in, laid his little hand on his older sibling’s forearm. Jonathan looked at Solomon’s calm face and took some big slow breaths. Immediately the tension began to release. He stopped shaking and his breath became more even.
Jonathan began to nibble on his breakfast and drink a little of the orange juice.
