Chapter 6 A Painful Lesson Learned Installment 30
Succubus and his group were learning how a demon prizes his ability to inflict pain. Curses can cause physical or mental pain, often times both. As a demon is fundamentally made from clay and rock infused with blood, and as these are the materials of their world, they could feel a connection to those elements. Using their mental powers and their tainted will, they can combine these abilities with their basic understanding of matter to inflict pain on others.

As Succubus stared at the rock in front of him, filled with numbers he had scratched there with a chalky rock, he thought about the punishment he had received from Borgin. He was constantly put down and degraded and he was filled with resentment for his bitter, arrogant teacher.

He finished the problem he had been working on and sat back on the rock bench. As usual he was the first one done. Soon others completed it as well and joined him, waiting for Borgin to walk behind them and analyze their work.
The Definition of a Spike
Sitting by other spikes, the name given to young demons whose horns were just points on their heads, Succubus observed those around him with a critical eye for weakness.
He was a head taller than the other thirty or so students that languished on the rocks. He also had horns that, although just points, were already thickening and rounding. The others stared forward with their heads bowed as the instructor inspected their work with a constant stream of cutting remarks.
Unproductive Feedback
“Poorly done as usual. Somehow you got the correct answer from that mess you wrote.”
Succubus waited, dreading the moment Borgin would come to him. He knew he had worked through the problem correctly because he seemed to learn everything quickly, as if it were second nature.
But that didn’t mean he would take any less abuse from his teacher. In fact, it seemed to bring even more.
