Sleep is at a premium and many Utahns find themselves staring at the ceiling at 3:00 in the morning or watching the minutes tick by while trying to nod off. Here are three sleep trends you can try as well as some things to remember.

Get Sunlight and Photons On You To Set Your Rhythm

This addresses that theory that the reason you are losing sleep is because your circadian rhythm is off. This is the master clock in your brain that responds to light and dark and lets your body know when it is time to rest.

This can get out of sync if you are inside all the time or the sky is covered in clouds. Getting photons in your eyes and on your skin, especially when you first wake up, will help reset this clock.

Moving Your Eyes Around Like You are Dreaming Puts You to Sleep

This is a simple way to get to sleep that I first learned from a guy who was in the military. He used it to get to sleep quickly wherever he was. You simply trick the brain into thinking it is time to crash.

With your eyes closed, you look up and down, left then right, make circles to the left, then circles to the right. Do each of these moves and hold for 3 seconds each time. This mimics what your eyes do when you dream. It also sends a signal to the nerves that it is sleep time.

Rubbing Your Feet Together Brings Comfort

If you find yourself staring at the ceiling when you should be drifting off to sleep, you may try this tip that is trending on social media. It involves finding your inner cricket and if there’s one thing Utahns should know, it’s crickets. Just ask a seagull.

If you have ever watched an infant, sometimes they rub their little feet together. Those on social media claim this is comforting for babies and that doing the same will help you fall to sleep faster.

Try these three ideas for falling to sleep fast. One thing you should remember is almost everyone wakes up at night for some reason or other. Getting stressed out and wondering what is wrong with you won't really help.

Try some of these ideas and see if they help you get back into a good slumber. The eye rotation thing works pretty good for me. And remember, if you try the feet rubbing idea, don't make chirping sounds like a cricket. That won't help.
