Utahns Say Farewell To Mirage In Las Vegas
So Long, Farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, Goodbye. If you haven't said goodbye to the Mirage in Las Vegas and want to, you’d better hurry.
We were guests of Dixie State University (at the time) and attended The Beatles LOVE by Cirque du Soleil. We wandered through the casino, entered a well-attended theater, met our friends, and enjoyed the antics of that creative explosion. We had such a great time and were dazzled by the show and the venue.
If you had a similar experience at the Mirage and want to say one last goodbye, hurry down. They’ve already started demolishing the grounds. The volcano is gone, as are most of the surrounding areas. The main building is still standing, so you can thank it for the good times from afar, but the clock is ticking. I tried to find a specific date for the building’s demolition but couldn’t find anything more specific than the general closure date of July 17. So, even though the area is walled off, you can still see the building.
This is hard for some of us because the Mirage marked the beginning of the bigger hotels and the reinvention of the Las Vegas experience.

Why are they demolishing it?
So that Hard Rock Casino can build one of their massive iconic guitar-shaped hotels in its place. It’s the modus operandi for Vegas to clear out the old to build the new, so it’s not surprising, even though it can be hard for those of us with fond memories of the classic buildings of the past.
So, adios Mirage, and get ready. In about three years, the skyline will feature a large guitar among the other stunning buildings.
