
Highest Paying Profession For Each State and Utah’s Is Right on Brand
The highest paying job in Utah is in health care as is true of 48 out of 50 states. This says a lot about what most people know already about the cost of medical care. The specific health care job that is biggest in Utah says something about the state.
The Dominance of Health Care Jobs Across the U.S.
Visual Capitalist looked at the median salary in the occupation that pays the most in each state. The highest paying job across the 50 states was cardiologist with that profession leading in 12 states.
For Utah it was a health care job but the highest was OB-GYN. That fits for the state with the highest number of births every year. Only Oregon had the same as the number one profession in the state.

Health Care and Medical Costs Keep Growing
It is not a surprise that health care jobs pay well. Everyone has experienced the rise in medical costs over the last couple of decades. However, I don't think most of us would have guessed it was this dominant.
There are some interesting parts to this list. It isn't California which is #45 or New York at #27 that has the highest wage on the list. The top is Missouri with Orthopedic surgeons making $843k a year. Minnesota and Washington are next.

It is also interesting that Idaho and Georgia lists the highest earning professions as pilots. Who knows why. Maybe they make a lot of money by flying doctors in and out of the other states.
