How would you like a robot to stab you in the eye? It doesn't sound good but that is actually what the University of Utah has invented to help with highly delicate eye surgeries and it is pretty impressive.

Revolutionizing Eye Surgery: The Robot Solution

There are gene therapy procedures that can help a person recover their sight that have been approved by the FDA that require injections into the layers of the eye that are measured in millimeters.

The slightest tremor by the surgeon or movement by the patient can give a disastrous result. Researchers at two separate departments at the university designed a robot that solves these problems. It is so impressive it has received attention nationally.

Keeping Steady: The Innovative Helmet Design

The device is secured to the patients head making it so it stays secure even if there is movement. It is a kind of helmet with the robot attached and makes it so the eye stays still and aligned with the robot.

It carries out the movements of the surgeon while scaling down those movements and making it possible to make the slightest cuts. The surgeon handles a device that translates to the robot that does the actual cutting on the eye.
