I don't know if Utahns vacation more than other areas, but it seems like every time I turn around someone is leaving or returning from an exotic trip.

Like you, I have heard many disaster stories from Utahns returning from vacations. I have compiled some signs that you should be on the lookout for that might indicate your vacation is about into turn to a disaster rather than a fun memory. Being aware of these can save you some pain.

#1 Look For Signs
I was talking to a couple who flew into a storm at their destination. The airline was concerned about the weather when they were boarding, but decided they could arrive before the storm hit. They told me they wished they had seen that as a warning because when they arrived at the hotel, they found out the airline had flown them into a weather danger zone. Look for providers being concerned on departure and they might tip you off that you might want to abort the trip.

#2 Be A Little Skeptical
We went on a trip in Belize which boasted that the residence would provide a personal chef. When we got there we found that the rented home was run by a couple, he was the maintenance man and she was the chef. She was a wonderful cook and we enjoyed her offerings, but the food was not ever flowing like we thought it would be, nor did we have a menu to choose from. It was more like living at home, mealtime arrived and you ate what was prepared. So, second guess the services offered and you will probably be able to untangle what you are really getting for your money.

#3 The Great Upsell
Especially this year there seems to be a lot of all-inclusive options. We like these when money is tight because it gives you a bottom line to expect to pay when you are planning. These are great, but be on high alert for opportunities for upsell. Remember the vacation provider will need to find a way to make money especially if they are offering an incredible price.
