Nobody wants mold and fungus in the bathroom. It builds up in the corners of the shower and makes the drains smell musty. There is a place where mold builds up quickly and is often overlooked. It also comes in frequent contact with your feet.

How Often Should You Wash Your Bathmats?

The mat that sits outside the shower is only used a few times a day depending on how many people use the shower regularly. However, everything drains off a person and whatever is on the bottom of their feet ends up there while it slowly dries.

Mold can quickly build up in the cloth that makes it comfortable to stand on. These bathmats should be washed weekly or more depending on how frequently they are used. Neglecting this duty can spawn fungus and molds to grow.

Hanging a bathmat over the side of the tub or on a towel bar will allow it to dry out faster. This can extend how often washing is needed.

Replace a Bathmat Every Couple of Years

Washing these mats regularly will cause them to wear out. When the material gets ragged, especially if it has rubber backing and it begins to break, it is time for new mats. Replacing them every couple of years will keep the bathroom mold free.

The hotel industry often uses bathmats made of the same material as towels. This makes it easier to wash them regularly, and it doesn’t have to be washed by itself like a rubber-backed mat does.
