Scary Movie Moments That Messed With Our Childhood
Growing up in Utah we loved movies. We got to be the generation that started bringing movies home for our own private screenings. Many a sleep over was lulled to sleep by a movie. But there was some movies that were stuck with you and I'm not so sure in a good way.
Here is a list of movies that left a scar on our maturing psyches.
The NeverEnding Story
This one swept me away in the land of belief where we were taught through the adventures of Atreyu that belief and optimism created an actual physical response in the story.
What a great message for young minds...until Atreyu loses his valiant steed Artax in the swamp.
If you remember you had to think positive thoughts or you would sink. How motivating is that? You better start thinking happy thoughts or your noble horse will sink into the mud.
Wow, now I feel happy.
Watership Down
This charming tale about Peter Cottontail was heartwarming. Yeah, right. To be fair I remember my mom reading the book to us and I understood that it had deeper themes, (an advantage my friends did not have).
Somehow the violence was digestible in print. When we saw the cartoon animated with blood and dying rabbits I really woke up to the hardcore nature of this bunny animation.
Wow! I couldn't look at a bunny for years until I saw the adorable white rabbit in Monty Python's Holy Grail! So cute and cuddly.
What movies would you add to this list?
