Where to Find the Best Authentic Greek Gyro in Southern Utah at a Place You Might Overlook

I love a good gyro. There are many places who make pretty good gyros in Southern Utah and there are more popping up all the time. I like these offerings, but I feel they are kind of the standardized Americanized version of this Greek pitta with meat. 

Notable Gyros Available Now in Washington County 

The recent addition of Meraki Greek Grill in Santa Clara in the shopping plaza by Harmon’s is worth visiting. They have a lot of yummy Greek salads and dishes in addition to a beef or lamb gyro. I got the lamb and enjoyed it though I didn’t feel it was super authentic. 

Up the road at Express Chicken on Sunset Blvd they serve up tasty Greek Food. This is closer to the kind of gyro I’m looking for. The owner is from the middle east and his food and spices taste like he knows what he is doing. 

Nick the Greek is on River Rd over by Dick’s Sporting Goods. Once again, they offer a good gyro but feels like it was made for an American who wants something healthy. Kind of the same way I feel about Mad Pita Express. 

Where to Experience a Really Good Gyro in Southern Utah 

I like a gyro that has exotic spices that don’t taste like they are based in America. I also like the meat to be a little too greasy. I know this isn’t what we health-conscious folks should be looking to eat and I don’t want to make a habit of eating this way. 

Still, when I bite into a pitta full of beef or lamb, it should be juicy and full of flavor. There is one place I have found this kind of gyro, and it isn’t at a place that specializes in Greek food. In fact, they have dishes from all over and everyone is good.

It is the Cross Country Diner in Hurricane. It looks like somebody parked a couple of train cars on 100 west. If you like a good clean version of the gyro, I would suggest the earlier locations. But if you want something sloppy and delicious, try this place in Hurricane.
