We’ve Been Eating Burgers the Wrong Way And Science Has the Answer
It is backyard burger grilling season with sizzling meat wafting through the warm air. You cram it full of condiments along with melted cheese, pickles, tomatoes, and lettuce. All of these make that sucker slippery and soon you are holding nothing but a bun and mayo.
Here is How to Eat a Burger the Right Way
You can have all those slippery extras between the bun and still enjoy eating it with your hands without resorting to a fork or feeding the dog the paddy that got away. It is all in how you place your hands and especially your fingers.

It is actually fairly simple. When you pick up your burger, you should have your first three fingers across the top bun. These should be evenly spaced to give balance. Your pinky fingers should be under the bottom bun near the back while your thumbs hold the front.
This stable configuration will let you enjoy each bite without the whole thing sliding out the side. You can see that without the pinky configuration, the thumbs have to balance everything below. It’s a disaster waiting to happen.
Commitment to the Burger is Important
The other problem that occurs when eating a burger is trying to do more than just eat. If you are having a conversation, you will eventually try the one-handed approach to look cool while you use the other to wave around as you talk. The dog loves this maneuver.
The only solution to looking cool is what the fast-food places figured out. Wrapping the burger in tinfoil keeps everything nice and tidy. The only problem is you look like a little kid with the wrapper solution.

Your best bet is to eat the burger with the balanced hand approach and do your talking while eating chips. Now go enjoy the backyard cook out in a tasty, less messy way. Sorry dogs.
