Canine Friends Prevent Break Ins

Research has shown that neighborhoods with lots of dogs have less homes getting broken into. This may not be too surprising. No one likes getting bitten. But it isn’t just the size of the dog that matters. Small dogs are just as big a deterrent.

The noise is a big factor, and everyone knows how loud little dogs can bark. If a criminal is sneaking around, a lot of barking will attract attention.

But there is even more involved when it comes to dogs and home security. Being a deterrent to crime involves being aware of problematic factors before a crime happens, and dogs help with this as well.

Don’t Say the ‘W’ Word Too Loud

If you have a dog, especially one with a lot of energy, you know they need to be taken for a walk regularly. My dog gets so excited when she hears the word that we have to be careful not to say it out loud.

Now you are walking and being seen in the neighborhood with your canine friend on a leash. If someone  is out looking for an easy target, you and your dog will make them want to look elsewhere.

Your dog is also aware of things you may not notice. The dog can direct your attention to suspicious people and other possible problems.

So, forget the neighborhood watch and talk to your neighbors about getting a dog. Big black ones are always good and make sure they need a walk on a regular basis. You’ll be much healthier, and your home will be more secure.
