Chapter 7 Learning to Curse Installment 36
The old demon carefully set down the bag and turned to look at Succubus. “You have to think differently to understand it,” he said tapping his head. “There is great power to be harnessed if you take the time to probe how things work.”
Ansu stared wide eyed at Succubus without blinking until it became uncomfortable, and Succubus looked away.
Ansu chuckled and turned to lift the bag again. As he did, he removed two large mushrooms and handed them to Succubus. “The Summoning will soon be upon us,” he said as he shuffled past.

Succubus was approaching his tenth Summoning in the demon world. During this time, he had generally tried to stay out of his teacher’s way. Borgin constantly belittled him, but Succubus did nothing to ignite his teacher’s temper.
An Introduction to the Summoning
Succubus also became familiar with the order maintained in the school by the oldest and strongest of the students. The most powerful group at the top controlled those below them, and this descended through the ranks to the weakest. Each year as they grew bigger, Succubus and his classmates moved up this hierarchy.
There were sixteen years of training at which time students were required to submit for the trials. At the yearly Summoning, the older students completed their training and left the school, and his group was able to obtain better accommodations in caves higher up in the complex.
