SCARY…World’s Most Dangerous Hikes Features Two Utah Locations
A list of the most dangerous hikes in the world include two entries located in Utah. One you can probably guess as it leads many dangerous lists. The other isn’t as well known, and its peril isn’t so much from being high.
Trail Includes Sheer Cliff Walls and a Chain to Hold Onto
Angel’s Landing inside Zion National Park makes every dangerous hiking trail list I could find. The trail is well maintained, and until you reach the last ascent, it features relatively tame switch backs. The most danger is from falling rocks at this point.
The las part takes you across a narrow path with a sheer drop and chains secured to the cliff to hold onto with very little room for people to pass. When you reach the top there is a flat area with sheer cliffs on three sides.
Part of the danger of Angel’s Landing comes from the number of people hiking it, although there is now a permit system that limits how many can be on the trail at any given time. There have been multiple deaths and rescues on this trail.
Lesser-Known Trail in Utah Presents a Different Kind of Danger
In Canyonlands National Park there is a hike that is harder to get to that would certainly be higher on the list if more people were to do it. It is called the Maze, and it requires a boat trip up a river followed by a 1000-foot climb.
It features canyons that twist and dead end in desert conditions. It can be really easy to get lost in and without proper preparations it could get you in trouble fast. Because this maze can be dangerous, they keep a good eye on the few people who visit it.

Truthfully, there are many slot canyons that could easily make the list but aren’t in some National Park. If you live in Utah, you can be proud that you stare danger in the face every day.
