You can rent E-bikes, motorcycles, and side by sides to visit the wonders of Southern Utah. What if you could rent an exoskeleton that would make it easier to hike Angel's landing in Zion?

The Future of Hiking: Exoskeleton Technology

This is technology that is made to assist people when they walk by attaching to the legs. Some will lift at the hip, the knee, or even the calf muscle and there are several versions already on the market.

Like any new product that is developed, the beginning price can be expensive. Most of the exoskeletons available to buy are anywhere from $1,500 to $4,000. This will price out most people just looking for a little help hiking.

The Price of Progress: Exoskeletons and Accessibility

Some of these are made as medical devices to help people with balance issues and to keep them from falling. If it is medical than it means a whole lot more testing to be approved by the FDA and that increases the price dramatically.

This is where rentals come in. You may not spend a couple grand for one of these devices, but you might spent $40 bucks to try it for a day hike. That is exactly what they are offering in China where you can rent an exoskeleton to see the Great Wall.

If I am a rental places offering E-bikes for visitors to Zion and Snow Canyon, I would be seriously looking into exoskeleton rentals. If I could do that I would rent one of those military level ones and skip the shuttle.
