Aruba Hand Sanitizer Recall

If you have the Aruba brand of Aloe hand sanitizer, throw it out. This product was sold all over the United States including Utah. It contains methanol which can cause health problems including these listed by the FDA:

Risk Statement: Substantial methanol exposure can result in nausea, vomiting, headache blurred vision, coma, seizures, permanent blindness, permanent damage to the central nervous system, or death.

These products come in a green bottle with a white label. According to the notice, the brand hasn't received any reports of adverse reactions so far.

Methanol Poisoning

During the pandemic some sanitizers were putting methanol in their product instead of ethyl alcohol. Methanol is not made for the skin and these hand sanitizers were pulled from shelves.

The Aruba brand has voluntarily recalled the products that contain methanol. They have contacted those who purchased it online and offered a replacement coupon. You can see the full list of these products and the lot numbers on FDA site with a link here.

Swallowing Hand Sanitizer

Obviously swallowing any hand sanitizer is not a good idea. With methanol, it becomes even more dangerous. Children or pets may ingest the product mistakenly and others have swallowed hand sanitizer as a substitute for alcohol.
