Best Lakes to Scuba Has This Surprising Utah Entry
The Lake in Utah on This Top Scuba List Isn’t One You Might Think Of
Scuba diving isn’t just for the ocean and Scubapro lists their top 10 freshwater lakes to explore with scuba gear. You may be thinking Bear Lake or maybe Lake Powell, but neither are on the list. It isn’t a traditional lake or reservoir; it is one formed in a crater.
Homestead Crater is located in Wasatch County at the Midway Homestead Resort. It sits in a dome of limestone with a hole in the top that lets the sunshine in. You can dive in the crater year-round as the water stays above 90 degrees as it seeps in through the rock.
The mineral water seeps in through a spring that is constantly refilling the crater. The water is clear, and you can dive down 65 feet and check out the unique rock formations. There aren’t any fish, but the mineral deposits are a sight to see.
This is a picture from the bottom of the crater. The crater was formed by lava and then filled with water. Here you can see the water bubbling up from the spring. This is nice warm place to learn to scuba.
