Fight Cancer Utah Eat Your Cruciferous Veggies
Cancer in most forms is more treatable than ever, especially in Utah, which boasts leading cancer centers like the University of Utah and the Intermountain Cancer Center. When my amazing wife Lisa faced cancer the first time, her prognosis was not very positive, but the treatment was successful. Many years later, the entire process was more optimistic, with promising survival rates and numerous insightful tips to improve success.
While we are getting better at fighting cancer, it’s important not to wait for it to appear before taking action. Certain foods can play a significant role in cancer prevention, particularly cruciferous vegetables.
All fruits and vegetables are beneficial for cancer prevention, mainly due to their high content of antioxidants and, in vegetables, fiber. Since cancer involves the process of oxidation to grow, antioxidants are a powerful counter to cancer growth, and fiber can reduce inflammation.
But what makes cruciferous vegetables so special for cancer prevention? First, they contain a super substance called glucosinolates. These potent cancer fighters have been shown to break down carcinogens, reduce inflammation (a condition that can promote cancer growth), and decrease the ability of cancer cells to spread.
This has made cruciferous vegetables a top choice for many doctors in cancer prevention plans. So, what exactly are cruciferous vegetables?
Here is a list:
- Bok Choy
- Broccoli
- Brussels Sprouts
- Cauliflower
- Cabbage
- Radishes
- Turnips
There are more, but these are among the most common. So, include cruciferous vegetables in your diet, and perhaps prevention will become the most successful cancer-fighting tool in your life.
