Credit Card Nail Chip

There’s a new service making the rounds in the news that lets you embed a credit‑card chip right into an acrylic nail. Instead of tapping your card, you tap your nail to pay. Talk about super glam — it’s the high fashion of checkout lines. You get the drama of paying for your Diet Coke with a flick of your finger like some kind of sparkly, well‑hydrated wizard plus the beauty of a runway manicure.

Would Utahns Put a Credit Card Chip in Their Nail?

My knee jerk answer is no, no way, we are a careful state, not too quick to jump on every silly fad, but then I started thinking about all of the cutting-edge technology that Utah has created and embraced. We don't jump on dumb trends, but we love smart ones.

Utah has always been a fascinating blend of frontier grit, cutting‑edge tech. So when a company rolls out a digital wallet that literally sits on your fingernail, the rest of the country might hesitate — but Utah? Utah is already in line, holding a Swig drink and asking for one on each finger so they can budget accordingly.

Using the Nail Credit Chip

You’re at Costco. Your cart is full of 40 pounds of cheese, a kayak you didn’t plan on, and enough muffins to feed a mid‑sized 5K. The cashier says, “Ready to pay?” and instead of digging through your wallet like a raccoon in a dumpster, you just boop your finger on the terminal. Done.
And we love anything that can be described as “hard to lose.” Keys? Lost. Wallet? Lost. Kids? Sometimes lost but eventually found. But a chip glued to your fingernail? That’s staying put through a full day of yard work in 104‑degree St. George heat.

This video shows a lady cutting out her own credit card nail chip, but according to sources cutting the chip off can damage supporting wires and components of the card, so you should look to the nail chip providers if you are excited about this idea.

So, would Utahns go for a credit‑card chip in their nail? The more I think about it the more convinced I am that the answer is: Absolutely. Enthusiastically. Aggressively. The only real question is which Utah county adopts it first and how long until someone tries to use it to pay grandma's rent.
