Utah Leads The Way With Plug-and-play Solar Energy Systems For Easy Home Savings

Utah passed H.B. 340 last year which approved plug and play solar in the state. This is an option to plug solar energy right into a wall socket and start saving money on your power bills.

Other states are working to approve this option but have not settled on what it will look like. In Utah the setup is already available. I talked with Matt from Ware Solar. On their website they a 120V plug-in setup you can purchase now.

"Utah is the first, like the pioneer," said Matt. "The laws are a lot more lax than the rest of the country." This means if you don't want to get solar panels secured to the roof or even if you live in an apartment, using solar power is a possibility in the state.

You can set these solar panels on a balcony and they are easy to move with you to a new place. There isn't any complicated hook up into the power of your home, you only have to plug it into the wall.

I asked Matt what it would take to get a basic solar with the microinverter that goes in the wall socket and he said it is around $1,000 to $1,200. Depending on how much energy you save, most people pay it off in a couple years.

This will help you use less power and the excess can go back to the grid, but you won't be payed for any extra you produce. Still, this bring solar to people who haven't been able to afford it before.
