If you have ever read books to little children, you know they love them. You also know they love you to read the same book over and over until you are ready to scream. You could care less if there are big dogs or little dogs and whether they ever get to some stupid big dog party.

For those of you hitting against the same book wall every day, here are 5 books that are as good as or better than Dr. Seuss.  It was compiled by a couple of young Southern Utah parents, my son Stockton and his wife Kadie, who have three kids under the age of four. These are Stockton’s comments for each book.

Goldfish

1. Memoirs of a Goldfish by Devin Scillian and illustrated by Tim Bowers.  It's from the perspective of a goldfish getting new fish put in his bowl and not enjoying it. I think it’s funny because it personifies our human nature to be resistant to change.

2. Dragons Love Tacos by Adam Rubin and Illustrated by Daniel Salmieri. Hilarious, my kids love imitating the flaming taco breath.

3. Interrupting Chicken and the Elephant of Surprise by David Ezra Stein. This is the funniest book I’ve ever read. No one has ever captured the funny irritation of being a parent than that book right there.

4. The Princess in Black by Shannon Hale & Dean Hale, illustrated by LeUyen Pham. This is good for older kids who are a little more patient and enjoy reading. It’s a chapter book so it is longer, and you don’t have to read it over and over again.

5. Mercy Watson to the Rescue by Kate DiCamillo, illustrated by Chris VanDusen. Same concept, they are chapter books. It’s a family that treats their pet pig like a kid. They’re humorous.
