Way Early Sneak Peak in Southern Utah of New “Young Washington” Movie
I was able to watch a very early screening of the new movie "Young Washington" in Hurricane. I don't want to over sell it, but this movie was really fun to watch. The official release date is July 3rd by Angel Studios.
The Plot Unfolds: George Washington’s Formative Years
The movie takes place when George Washington is a boy and follows him as tries to find his way in the early American frontier. He clashes with British nobility and French invaders along the way.
The cast is surprisingly good. Ben Kinsley and Andy Serkis play British generals and every scene they are in is delicious to watch. They are so freaking pompous and at the same time somewhat likable.
Epic Battles and Stunning Landscapes
Mia Rogers plays Sally Fairfax, a love interest of young George played by William Franklyn-Miller and the on screen sparks that fly are palpable. Kelsey Grammar is also great as Sally's father Thomas Fairfax the Virginia land owner.
It was surprising how epic the battles felt in the Virginia wilderness. This movie can't have that big of a budget, but it doesn't feel that way. The fighting is intense and the soaring shots of the trees and mountains is exhilarating.
I was a little worried to see these filmmakers take on something like the story of George Washington, but I walked away pleasantly surprised and even impressed. The film stayed true to the history and it lets the story take over without feeling sentimental or preachy.

If you get a chance to see "Young Washington" at an early screening, take it. Otherwise, it will be worth to wait and see it in July. I would watch it on the big screen though. It is worth it.
