This Plane Sticking Out Of The Ground in Nevada Tells A Strange Story
There’s a wreck in the Nevada desert that is the result of a bomb. Not the kind of bomb that explodes but the kind that hits a movie screen. This is in Nelson, Nevada that was once a mining boom town and now is full of all kinds of strange stuff.
Gold Mines and a Lawless Town
The Spanish first found silver in this canyon a mile from Las Vegas, but it wasn’t until gold was discovered in 1858 that things really picked up. Because of how remote the place was, it became a lawless haven for civil war deserters and criminals hiding from the law.
The history of the canyon is everything you would expect from the wild west. As the gold ran out, people moved on. Now it is home to eclectic vehicles, a mine shaft you can take a tour of, and the remains of a movie set.
Former Movie Set Is Now a Tourist Destination
In 2001 there was a movie starring Kevin Costner, Kurt Russel, Courtney Cox, David Arquette and Christian Slater. It was named “3000 Miles to Graceland” and there is a reason this is probably the first time you have heard of it.
The movie stinks. It barely made a blip on the box office and was considered a bomb by the critics and those who watched it. You can see it for free on YouTube as no one seems to care that someone posted the whole movie there.
The reason you may want to watch some of it is to see why this plane is sticking out of the ground in Nelson. It was part of the movie set that Kevin Costner’s character blows up. It is still sticking out of the ground there today.
