Retailers Respond to Shoplifting with Locked Cases

Stores in California have seen an increase in theft in the last few years. It may be in part to Proposition 47 that says a person won’t be prosecuted for taking less than $950 worth of merchandise. This passed in 2014.

Stores have closed in high crime areas and others have responded by locking up items that are stolen the most. This isn’t just in California, here in Utah electronics are often behind glass. The home improvement stores place wire and sometimes power tools in a place that requires help from an employee.

Recently, there have been stories out of California that show Walmart and Target stores that not only have cosmetics and electronics in locked displays, but now underwear is also in these cases. It requires help from an employee to get a pair of socks.
