Could Everyone Agree on the Last Saturday in October?

There have been proponents over the years who have argued that Halloween should be moved from the 31st to the last Saturday in October. This way there would be more time to prepare, and children wouldn’t have to get up for school the next day. It is basically a time and safety issue.

I like the idea and since Halloween isn’t a government sanctioned holiday, we could do this anytime by just getting together and deciding to offer candy at the door on Saturday. This probably won’t happen because we would all have to agree on it. There is a better solution anyway.

Extended Halloween Weekend

Everyone loves a long holiday weekend, and it is past time for Halloween to fit the bill. We shouldn’t move Halloween to Saturday, we should put it on Friday. This way the kids don’t have to go to school the next day and we all get the day off. Even better, do it like Thanksgiving and put it on Thursday and we get four days.

To really make this happen, we will need the government to make it a Federal Holiday. That way we don’t have to get together and have everyone go along. With it as a government deal, businesses will close, and we all go home and don a costume.
