What the New Utah Flag Is Saying
Do you love it or hate it? Yes, we are talking about the new Utah State flag. A lot of people are quite excited about the new design, some are upset and want to stick with what we already had.
Maybe to help you decide where you stand on the new flag, wait you shouldn't stand on a flag, to help you decide if you like it or not we could look at the symbolism behind the new flag.
Carry Over Symbols
Some critics feel the new is an abandonment of the old. You should know what symbols have been brought over from the old flag. The five mountain peaks represent the major Indian tribes who consider Utah important and even sacred.
The old flag also represented the tribes of the area with the arrows polking through the shield.
The blue backing in the old flag along with the American flags flanking the shields were meant to represent in part United States backing and Utah's desire to be part of the union. In the new flag, the blue behind the white mountain peaks can represent the same idea.
Of course, the beehive is brought over as well representing industry and cooperation.
United States Loyalty:
The blue, white, and red stripes can be seen as mirroring the colors of the United States flags. If you scan images of other state flags you will see the majority do not represent that depth of American loyalty. In fact, the new state flags for Minnesota (shown above) and Mississippi don't have that color scheme.
Hexagon:
Some people are suspicious of the hexagon shape around the beehive. It has been known to be related to the dark side if you are a Star Wars fan. I'm not saying it's not, but it could be the shape of a honeycomb. Also if you are fascinated by the dark side you know that the dark side on our planet seems to get its best ideas from the light side, so the hexagon might have some pretty strong positives aligned with it.
