With private companies jumping into the business of launching satellites and exploring space tourism, the facilities to send rockets up are getting busy. Surprisingly, Utah is positioned to be a possible location for a new space launch pad.

State Passes a Bill to Explore the Possibilities

The beehive state has had a hand in the space industry going back to the space shuttle in the 1970s. They explored the possibility of a spaceport back then. Since that time the industry has grown in Utah and has made it attractive to the private space industry.

This gathering of space related industries also means it could be a good place to launch rockets from, and a committee formed by the state is looking into the possibilities. A bill passed by the state has people looking into it.

‘Newspace’ Has Brought Opportunities for Growth

Utah has a lot of space related businesses that produce as much as 20% of the state’s economy. All this existing infrastructure will continue to attract space-related businesses. It also makes it attractive to build launching facilities nearby.

This new committee made up of those in the business and state leaders will be looking if it is feasible to make this happen. If it does it will be a big boon to the state and bring in all kinds of high-tech jobs.
