Social media is buzzing with a new discovery coming out of southern Missouri where convenience stores have been offering heavy soda when you fill up a drink at the  fountain. With how much Utah loves the specialties soda’s, this could be the next big thing.

Drinks That Make Up for Melting Ice

The heavy drink option lets you put more syrup in relation to the carbonation at the fountain machine. The idea is to keep the drink tasting good when most of the ice melts and increases the water ratio.

This isn’t a completely new idea. There have been rumors for years that McDonald’s coke tastes better for this reason. There are also movie theatres that have admitted doing the same thing. It does make sense if you want to make that drink last the whole movie.

The reaction online has some thinking it is too much sugar and others hoping to try it. Dentists and those worried about how much sugar people ingest are not excited about this trending topic.

Will Utah Jump on the Heavy Trend?

In Utah we love our soda. Surprisingly, our soda intake isn’t as high as Colorado and Hawaii. Utah is on the low end of daily intake, but that doesn’t mean we don’t love it. After all, Swig and the whole flavored drink phenomenon started in the beehive state.

In fact, adding coconut and other flavors helps keep the beverage yummy as the ice melts. This is part of why these drinks have taken off. Will adding more syrup be the next trend? Would you buy a soda with double the syrup or even triple?
