What the town of Fairview in Utah is doing with this historic ski resort in central Utah is fun and kind of inspiring. Snowland was started in 1967 with a cabin, and some ski runs. Now a nonprofit and some volunteers are getting it going again.

A Grant Will Help Bring The Community Vision to Reality

Jerry Nelson and his family opened Snowland in Fairview canyon in 1967 which featured a cabin and a snow hill. When it closed in 1980, teenagers continued to ski and snowboard the hill by driving up the canyon to the top of the hill.

A nonprofit group has come together with plans to reopen the resort with a new parking lot and some rope tows to get up the hill. This effort was greatly boosted by a $1 million dollar grant from the Utah Division of Outdoor Recreation. There have also been significant donations raised.

You Can’t Beat the Price for 2025

This effort to create a place for the community to gather is offering a deal for the first season. They plan on opening Snowland on December 1st and the price will be absolutely free. That is the kind of thing that will get people’s attention.

Interest has grown quickly in the project. Nearby Snow College is working with the group to offer opportunities for their students. They also plan to add a concert venue to the location for summer gatherings.

I love this effort and hope they are hugely successful. With free access this year, it might surprise them how many people show up.
