A popular trail system in St. George is getting a build out that will include new amenities. This is big news for the mountain biking community and will bring high school competitions back to the area for the first time in 6 years.

Exciting New Amenities: What to Expect

The Cliffrose Trail System is north of St. George off Cottonwood Rd. Washington County is planning a staging area with plenty of parking along with room for camping. There will be bathrooms and picnic tables, and a bicycle repair station.

They are currently working on the bid process and construction will begin after March 23, 2026. The detailed plans can be seen on a downloadable pdf on the Washington County site.

Mountain Biking Growth: A Statewide Phenomenon

Mountain biking has grown in the last decade, and there are sponsored races around the state throughout the school year. Washington County has some of the best trails in the world but hasn’t been able to handle a large event.

The improvements to the Cliffrose Trail System will change that. There are plans to host races this fall as soon as improvements are made. Utah has the largest high school mountain biking league in the country.

Jeff Basham has kids who have raced for years in the high school system and is excited for the improvements. “It will be nice to race locally and sleep in our own beds,” said Basham.

Along with the new trailhead and staging area, there will be new trails that will be developed. The trail system has been built in a partnership between Washington County and the Pine Valley Ranger District from a fund granted by the State of Utah.
