Finding an old bottle from the 1800s can be exciting. Many people hunt through old cellars and attics and even buried trash pits to find these antiques. Not only can it be an addictive hobby, it can also be worth a lot of money, depending on the find.

Trash from the Past That is Worth Thousands Today

Making glass containers started way back in the 1500s with people in Egypt who began to make small containers to carry liquids. Glass bottles made by blowing the glass increased the availability in later centuries.

The production of glass bottles really took off in the industrial revolution. There were all kinds of colors and shapes that soon began to be standardized. Everything from whiskey and perfume to poison was put in glass bottles.

Depending how old the glass bottle is and its rarity, collectors will pay a lot of money for it. This site shows several bottles that have sold for thousands with the highest being an olive-green double eagle flask worth $6,700 dollars.

The west is pockmarked with old mines and the abandoned towns around them. These places boomed in the 1800s with early settlers flocking in to find their fortune. Some people spend their weekends searching through these sites looking for old bottles and other antiques.

UtahColectors.com is just one of many sites where these Indiana Jones types gather to tell their stories and show what they have found. There is also a section where you can buy and sell vintage bottles.
