
This Report Says It’s Risky for Utahns to Eat These Foods
What was going on with our food supply last year? According to statistics from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration the number of people who died or who were hospitalized from contaminated food doubled from the previous year.
This Data Points to the Most Risky Foods
U.S.Pirig is a site that looked at the FDA and USDA numbers for 2024. They came away with some interesting and disturbing conclusions. They point out that it was the number of recalls last year and with familiar brands that was concerning.
Our biggest takeaway from 2024: We saw a dramatic increase in serious illnesses and deaths associated with unsafe food. The biggest threats stem from Listeria, Salmonella and E. coli.
Here's the List of Foods that are Risky
Consumer Reports said these foods are the most risky right now for possible contamination of salmonella, E.coli, and listeria. They also list the ways to protect yourself when purchasing these items.
You can see in more detail the foods and ways to mitigate the risk at their site. The foods include deli meat, raw milk, certain cheeses, eggs, and cooked chicken and meat. There were also several vegetables like cucumbers, carrots, and leafy greens.

The risk of contamination of these foods is still low for the average consumer. Still, keeping an eye on recalls and what products are most likely to be affected can keep you and your loved ones from becoming one of the statistics.
