Here’s What Might Explain Utah’s High Number of UFO Sightings in this City
Of all the cities in the United States, one in Utah is 4th on the list for people reporting that they have seen a UFO. Salt Lake has a lot of unidentified activity going on but there may be more to it than aliens stopping by Temple Square for a visit.
Comparing UFO Reports: The Top U.S. Cities
Salt Lake City, Utah reported 12.8 sightings per 10k people in this study. That was behind Sarasota, Florida that was almost double with 21.8 sightings, then Boise, Idaho with 15.6 and Orlando, Florida with 13.8 sightings per 10k people.
It may make you wonder about the people in the capital city and why so many are seeing things in the sky. A look at some of the studies done by researchers may shed some light on why Utah has so many of these UFO reports.

Military Presence and Clear Views: A Source of Unexplained Sightings
One factor is a military base or military activity nearby. Hill Air Force Base is probably the source of some of these lights seen in the sky over Salt Lake. There are also other military installations in the area like Dugway Proving Ground.
The other factor that contributes to Utah's high sighting count are the mountains and lack of tree cover. To see lights shooting through the sky you need a clear view. Mountain states report more unidentified objects for this reason.

The other factor that may contribute is the psychological one. In a study they found that people who were more open and experienced a richer fantasy life were more likely to not discount an experience they couldn't easily explain.
I'm not saying people in Utah fit this last category, but I'm not sure they don't. One thing is for sure. If you want to see strange things in the sky, Salt Lake City isn't a bad place to be on a clear summer night.
