Californians Moving to Other States

You may have noticed many people moving into Utah from California. It started during Covid and has continued as residents of the golden state have been moving out to escape high taxes and expensive housing.

This new law to raise electric bills based on income in the golden state is not going to slow the flow. The bill passed last year requires utility companies to change how they charge for electricity. Rather than for the amount the household uses, it will be based on income.

If You Can Work Anywhere, Why Stay?

You may think this is a good idea. Let the rich pay more for electricity. They have the money so why not? The problem is, they also have the means to move to another state and the ability to continue working from there.

I would imagine it will take more government oversight to figure out billing with this new law. Before you would get charged for what you used. With it being based on income, the person could make a lot and live in a small house or have solar and still end up with a hefty bill. It takes away any incentive to save and it seems messy.

Can’t Blame Californians for Moving

For those of you who have moved to Utah from California, I can understand why you made that decision. I lived there for a few years, and I enjoyed it, but I’m happy where I live now and would not want to move back.

If they keep coming up with these kinds of laws, I expect we will see more people migrating this way.
