We all know that Utah is the home of Robert Redford’s Sundance Festival and that many films and television shows have been filmed all over the state. This year, the Utah Film Commission is celebrating 100 years of filmmaking in Utah.
Yesterday’s Cedar City Council meeting included a resolution presentation to declare Cedar City the birthplace of filmmaking in Utah.
Maria Twitchell, the Executive Director of Visit Cedar City Brian Head presented the resolution presentation to the Cedar City Council last night and talked about what makes Cedar City the birthplace of filmmaking in Utah.
The Perry Brothers went to Hollywood to ask Hollywood to quit working on Hollywood backlots and do location filming in Utah.
In 1924, silent movie star Tom Mix came to Cedar City to film The Deadwood Coach, and that would be the first film filmed in Utah.
Visit Cedar City Brian Head is currently in talks with the Utah Film Commission to make Cedar City the first stop on its filmmaking in Utah trail and a part of the Utah Film Commission’s display at the Capitol building in Salt Lake City will be making its way to Cedar City to be displayed at Frontier Homestead State Park.
