Summer’s here, and that means BBQ season in Utah. Grilled meats are great, but if we're being honest, it’s the sides that really pull the whole meal together. Every backyard gathering has its own take on the classics, and I’m always excited to see what ends up on the table.

Utah BBQ Sides That Deserve the Spotlight

Let’s start with potato salad—it’s a must. Everyone seems to have their own twist, but I’m all about a version with just the right amount of tang, a little crunch, and that chilled, creamy texture that just works on a hot day. It’s simple, familiar, and it always disappears fast.  For a great recipe READ MORE: Utah's BEST Potato Salad Recipe

Baked beans are another go-to. Slow-cooked with brown sugar, maybe a little bacon, and just enough smokiness, they’re warm, sweet, and comforting—especially next to anything off the grill.
Coleslaw adds the perfect contrast. Crisp, cool, and a little zingy, it brings balance to the heavier dishes and works just as well as a side or piled on a sandwich.
Corn on the cob is the real crowd-pleaser. Grilled until slightly charred and slathered in butter and salt—it’s one of those things that disappears the minute it hits the table. Bonus if it’s local corn, fresh and sweet.
And of course, watermelon. Cold, juicy slices from the cooler are basically a requirement. It’s refreshing, hydrating, and one of the few sides that’s equally loved by kids and adults.
Utah BBQ sides might not be fancy, but they hit the mark every time. Give me a paper plate, a shady spot to sit, and a plate full of these classics—and I’m good to go for the season! So Good.
