Trash Pick Up Delayed for Mechanical Problems

Some residents in the Washington Fields area put out their trash for regular pickup and found it was still sitting at the curb three days later. A quick call to Washington County Solid Waste revealed they had some mechanical problems, and the truck would be around on Monday.

This isn’t that big of deal except the microburst of weather that hit on Sunday and knocked some cans over and blew trash around the streets. Even then, it wasn’t hard to clean up and order was restored quickly.

I don’t mean to make a big deal of this. I think those who pick up the trash and all who manage the landfill do a good job. It is this consistency that makes it a little disconcerting when trash cans are sitting along the street full all weekend.

With all the events happening in the United States like flights being cancelled due to a weird software update and all the businesses that had to deal with similar problems, to what happened at the rally in Pennsylvania and then the President deciding not to run, it feels like things we depend on aren’t as sure as they once were.

With a weekend like that, you can see why some might have felt that their garbage not being picked up for a few days was somewhat disconcerting. I’m sure it was nothing compared to trying to deal with mechanical problems on a tight schedule.

I guess I just want to say to all those who keep our city running smoothly, we are grateful for what you do, and your consistent performance gives us a sense of normalcy and comfort.
