Bull Canyon’s Dino Tracks Whisper Stories From The Jurassic Era that Feels Like a Movie
There is a place in Utah that feels like it is straight out of the Jurassic Park movies. This is a place where a three-toed, Velociraptor type dinosaur left tracks that lead straight off a massive cliff.
A Geological Marvel with a Thrilling Cliffside Encounter
Bull Canyon is in the eastern part of Utah in the La Sal mountains. It is about an hour out of Moab in the national forest there. It's not just that you can see amazing prints in the rock, what makes the site special is how the dinosaur seems to run straight off a cliff.
This trail is at 8500 feet in elevation. The dinosaur tracks make their way up an incline and off a massive cliff like the raptor was chasing the maker of an out-of-control theme park and tackled him in mid-air then fell to the rocks far below.
Why Hike Bull Canyon: Dino Tracks and Scenic Views
This isn’t what actually happened, but it is the story you can tell your kids. In reality, the cliff was created long after the dinosaur made the tracks in the soft mud of what was once a lake.
The dinosaur that made these tracks was a therapod and in the same family as Velociraptors. There is a lot of good information about these ancient prehistoric reptiles and the world they live in on signs along the trail.
