Chapter 9 Falling Rocks Installment 48

For the next few weeks, as Succubus and the other students learned more about cursing, the pattern from that first lesson continued. Borgin would lecture on the subject, then ask for a volunteer. When no one did, he would ask Succubus to step forward, thanking him for his willingness.

Succubus submitted to whatever punishment was required, but he also paid close attention to everything Borgin did; the way he held his hand, how the energy felt in the room, anything that would increase his understanding. He gathered knowledge and skill, waiting for the day he could return some of the punishment back on his instructor.

Action Could be Needed

One night, after a day of learning and humiliation, Succubus lay on his bed practicing what he had learned while the other demons his age slept. Ghamegis was making such a racket through his big nose it made it hard to drift off. He glanced at the lanky demon lying with his head back and his long nostrils whistling.

Ghamegis and Ipses had been particularly bothersome lately. They had been trying to grow their power by challenging older students and depending on Succubus to back them up. So far, he had been able to intimidate these by his size, but he was growing weary of his two lieutenants’ constant need for more power.
