Computer prices are rising fast. If you have gone shopping for a desktop or laptop, you have probably been surprised how expensive they are. This is because there is a shortage of memory chips thanks to AI gobbling all the available RAM.

PC Manufacturers Raising Prices

Not that long ago, there was an oversupply of memory chips on the market. The major manufacturers slashed prices and slowed production. What they didn’t see coming was the growing demand for RAM needed for AI.

Now there is a shortage and that is driving up the cost with the price of chips changing daily. There is such demand that investing in RAM companies might be a better bet than buying gold.

Dell has reportedly raised the prices of their computers by 15 to 20%, and it doesn’t look like it will be slowing down. Surprisingly, a PC you bought last year may be worth as much or more now just to harvest the RAM from it.

When We Can See the Shortage Lessen

There are multiple factors that keeps the supply of RAM chips from immediately ramping up. There are supply chain issues, and one of the former manufacturers moved into a different chip altogether.

They are saying it could be 2027 before things begin to even out. That is a long time to wait for computer prices to come back to normal. Better to buy sooner than later if you know you will be in the market.
