The cost of groceries hits us hard. When prices go up you feel it immediately. Here in Utah, we have certainly seen prices rise in the last few years. Where do we stand compared to other states in the nation?

Splitting the Difference in the Beehive State

Like so many things we do in Utah, our grocery prices are right in the middle compared to the rest of the nation. World Population Review gives the state-by-state average weekly cost of groceries so far in 2025.

They show Utah on average spends $278.41 per week at the grocery store. That is far less than in Hawaii where the weekly cost is $333.88 but way more than Wisconsin of all places with an average grocery bill of $221.46.

Utah is Near the Top 25% of All States

Even though our average price is in the middle, there are a lot of states that have lower grocery costs than Utah. We are 13th from the top of costliest grocery bills. That means some of our neighboring states are doing better cost wise.

If you can shop in Idaho or Wyoming, you will save an average of $20 per week on your grocery bill. But stay out of Nevada where it will cost you $16 more. The states with the best prices seem to be in the middle of the country where they grow all the food.
