Alcohol Consumption Is Dropping: Everyone Wants To Be Like Utah
Utah has long been known—and often teased—as a "dry state." No, not because of its water levels, but due to its low alcohol consumption. Well, hold onto your shot glasses, because alcohol consumption is dropping faster than a college party kid at a weekend kegger! (Okay, maybe that analogy needs a little work.)
There isn't a single, clear reason behind this trend, but according to NC Solutions, about 40% of Americans have decided to cut back on their booze in 2024. It's a nationwide movement that's gaining momentum, especially among younger generations. Nearly half of millennials are looking to reduce their alcohol intake, but the real trailblazers are Generation Z, with a whopping 61% planning to drink less. At this rate, the town drunk is going to have to find a new town!
Breweries have definitely noticed this shift. Athletic Brewing Company, which specializes in non-alcoholic beers, has been killing it as a new alternative. Even the old favorites are taking note, with many breweries quickly adding non-alcoholic options to their lineups.
So, what’s driving this sobering trend? Maybe it's the rise of wellness culture, or perhaps people are just tired of hangovers. Whatever the reason, it’s clear that Utah was way ahead of the trend and it's time to step up and own the clean living edge. Too often I have heard Utahns apologize for their lack of liquor in the party scene.
