Is Sparkling Water Good Enough For Healthy Utahns?
There is a raging trend in Utah as we step towards improved health. I see more and more sparkling water taking the place of sugary beverages, but you might be wondering if sparkling water is healthy.
I sat at a party about 10 years ago and the host brought out sparkling water drinks with our meals. I heard the murmurs among the guests; some were impressed, and others were quietly talking about where they were going to go to get their "normal" drink fix.
In the years since, I have seen the popularity of sparkling drinks rise.
So that begs the question, is sparkling water healthy?
The first and most profound answer is this, in general regular water is the healthiest choice . However, a lot of us get tired of water and still need to hydrate so we reach for a sparkling option.
As you can expect, less sugar, sweeteners and additives make a healthier choice, but what about the sparkling part? Is that bad for you? Not necessarily. The bubbles can give you gas, but this is just a discomfort that you can manage, it is not necessarily bad for you.
There is one consideration to think about, sparkling water is slightly acidic so if you drink too much it could negatively affect your tooth enamel. You can either limit your intake or take note of how your teeth feel. If you feel any negative consequences, you can reduce how much you drink until you feel better. Also drinking from a straw can help you to bypass soda interacting with your teeth.
I like to bounce between regular water, sparkling lightly flavored water, and a flavored water with no bubbles (or Buble's) to keep things interesting.
